Our systems are build using Web technologies (Ruby on Rails), ReactJS, GraphQL and Databases, are deployed in scalable cloud infrastructure, and we use Power BI for our reporting needs, as well as Teams for communication.

AVC Wise is seeking to employ an enthusiastic and qualified individual wanting to work as an Development Manager to join our friendly team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing and innovative business.

In this exciting remote role as a Development Manager, you will be leading a team of Developers and Testers. You will work in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, Business Analyst, Product Manager & wider business colleagues to deliver a state-of-the-art online pension platform.

The position is home based with occasional travel for team meetings and social gatherings. Full support for working from home will be provided including provision of equipment and an allowance for the working environment.

Who we’re looking for

Your main responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Manage a team of talented software developers and testers by providing mentorship.
  • Manage the development lifecycle of our Web applications.
  • Lead and inspire your team, ensuring everyone is motivated and that their needs, including training are properly identified.
  • Oversee day to day activities of both internal and offshore software resources.
  • Define quarterly KPIs and personal development goals for your team.
  • Manage the day-to-day workload of the team, ensuring that work is allocated, prioritised and completed within agreed timeframes.
  • Actively drive improvements and efficiencies within the team, ensuring best practices are adhered to and being a technical contributor to help your team as needed.
  • Be able to communicate and manage work efficiently with different stakeholders and SMT members.
  • Evangelise best technology and software development practices into the team with passion and enthusiasm.
  • Contribute to the whole development cycle, analysis, implementation, testing and operation.
  • Support multi-skilled, multi-discipline development teams developing various products with a diverse audience in delivery, processes, and ways of working.
  • Take ownership of the delivery commitments of the team as well as responsibility of the platform roadmap.
  • Build a good understanding of the technologies being used and solutions being designed by the team.
  • Help the team grow and improve, moving towards creating an engaging and welcoming environment for everyone.
  • Ensure the solutions and designs meet the requirements and are delivered within constraint.

A bit about you

You’ll already have demonstrable experience of managing software engineering teams or as a Scrum Master. In addition to this you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Prior experience with Web and/or Mobile Application development.
  • Extensive experience working in an agile environment.
  • An agile and dynamic approach to delivery.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Engineering expertise in Software development (Backend and Frontend).
  • Previous experience as a software engineer developing with Python, NodeJS, SQL & ReactJS.
  • Previous experience of modern Architecture, Frameworks & Design Patterns.
  • Relentless focus on our customer’s experience and application performance.
  • Continuous Integration/Deployment tools and processes.
  • Ability to work well in a team, self-driven and eager to learn.
  • Creative thinking, analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm to learn new technologies and concepts beyond current experience.
  • Familiar with software Engineering and SRE best practices, Testing strategies, and CI/CD.
  • A desire to work in a close-knit team and find ways to collaborate that bring the most out of yourself and others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Plus, the ability to understand, explain and simplify complex processes.
